You probably know Daniel Martin as the man behind Meghan Markle's elegant, effortless makeup. But he also has a host of other celebrity clients vying for his seat.
Gemma Chan, Michelle Yeoh and Maggie Gyllenhaal are just a few of the people who regularly communicate with Daniel before red carpet events and magazine cover shoots (it's safe to say, no One can pull off such a chic natural and bold look at the same time).
But Daniel's other role is global director of arts and education for skincare brand TATCHA, which means his knowledge of how to achieve glowing skin is also second to none.
So I caught up with Daniel IRL to get his top tips for natural, effortless skin and makeup this summer. This means your makeup stays on even in hot weather
There's a reason your foundation or concealer flakes, gets patchy, or cakes on during the summer, and it's because of the formula. Daniel always adjusts his makeup based on the type of skin care he uses.
For example, if your skin care regimen contains a lot of oils and you use a lightweight, water-based concealer or foundation, you may experience some slippage, as the two tend to repel each other. solution?
"I always use water-based skincare and use water-based foundation and concealer," Daniel says. He likes to prep his clients' skin with The Water Cream (£65) and is particularly fond of the NARS Light Reflecting Foundation (£39), which he says is lightweight and looks great in photos.
"Switching to water-based products, especially in the summer, will prevent makeup from dissolving." If you're on a budget, try The Inkey List's Omega Water Cream Moisturizer (£9.99), which is packed with hydrating glycerin and omega fatty acids to prevent dry skin.
Pair with an oil-free foundation, such as Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless Foundation (£8.99) or e.l.f. Flawless Foundation, £9. If you prefer a brighter look, try Garnier Oil-Free Perfect Care All-in-One BB Cream SPF25, £6.66.
How to Apply Skin Tint. Today, skin tones are everywhere, and more and more people are willing to ditch heavy foundation before summer arrives. From Trinny London to Rimmel, they offer lightweight coverage that makes skin look like skin.

However, they are not the best option for everyone. "If you have good skin and want to even out or neutralize any redness, a tint is great," Daniel says, "but someone with acne, for example, might want something with a little more pigment— —I know, I had cystic acne growing up.
If you like the lightweight feel of your color but want more coverage, Daniel has a top tip. Simply apply the tint all over your body (with your fingers or a thick brush), applying concealer where you think it's needed most.
This could be around the nose, active breakouts, scars, or under the eyes. Simply use a fluffy concealer brush (such as XX Revolution The Authority Fluffy Concealer Brush, £6) to blend concealer into skin so it looks natural.
How to prepare your skin for summer. Makeup can only make your skin glow. Daniel says it all comes down to how you prep your skin initially, and exfoliation is key.
"Before makeup, I like to use The Texture Tonic, [£57], which contains fruit-based AHAs (or alpha hydroxy acids, which exfoliate the skin). I use it on my clients because it's super gentle and unlike a toner , which can leave your skin feeling dry or dry and tight.
Daniel's follow-up is The Essence, £102. "Overall, this will make your skin look plump and juicy. " R29 also reviewed Dr.Jart+ Vital Hydra Solution™ Biome Essence with Blue Shot (£15), which contains hydrating hyaluronic acid and hydrating glycerin
and Revolution Skincare Hyaluronic Acid Essence Spray (£6), which contains glycerin and aloe vera, Vera provides soothing and moisturizing summer skin.

Try mixing concealer with lip balm. If you want some coverage but have too much foundation, Danielle discovered the ultimate secret after forgetting all about her skincare routine while on vacation. 'I use lip balm [Camellia Gold Spun Lip Balm, £28] as a moisturizer and my skin looks fantastic.
I now use it before concealer on some clients because it tightens the skin and Really moisturizes the skin." Simply dab the balm onto your skin, apply a small amount of concealer on top, and blend with your fingers or a fluffy brush.
If you're prone to acne, choose non-comedogenic products (less likely to clog pores), such as Bloom and Blossom Lip Service Nourishing Lip Balm, £10, or La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume Lips, £8 . Avoid using eyeshadow instead of bronzer
Daniel is a big fan of a monochromatic look for summer: use bronzer to define your cheekbones, add shine to your forehead, nose and chin, and define your eyes. (This is his go-to when clients ask for effortless makeup.) Instead of applying a layer of bronzer to the lids, however
Daniel uses a fluffy brush to apply it specifically to the crease, blending back and forth for a soft, Soft makeup. A diffuse look. "It has a sculpting effect that hollows out your eyes and makes them more defined without making the eyeshadow look too heavy.
It adds real depth," says Daniel. If you have droopy eyes or little eyelid space, applying directly to your eyelids with your eyes open can create a similar contouring effect. Daniel loves using the Charlotte Tilbury Glowgasm Face Palette (£60), which he says is suitable for all skin tones because the colors are buildable. Then use setting powder to draw eyeliner Whether you choose pencil, gel, or liquid eyeliner, you're always worried about it getting on your cheeks, especially when the weather is warm. That's why Daniel always sets his eyeliner with a light translucent powder. If this makes the color a little dull, just apply it for added durability. "The powder grabs the pigment and prevents it from moving," Daniel says.
