Glossier has launched its newest skin tint product, a stretchy foundation that comes in 32 shades and four different base shades. Plus, they've updated their popular stretchy concealer, launching it in 32 matching shades.
Glossier has had a pretty good year—first, it ditched its minimalist style and launched a removable G-suit-style matte lipstick in a bold color. The commitment to a more inclusive palette comes in response to backlash from the makeup community and allows the brand to expand its reach and appeal to a wider audience.
"It's a necessity," Glossier senior director of product Emily Trillaud said matter-of-factly about the color expansion. To understand the new Glossier Stretch Foundation, you need to know its inspiration and its origins - the brand's popular Stretch Balm Concealer.
"The finish is really moist. We've added a lot of skin-loving oils, including jojoba and avocado oil, to give you a naturally moisturizing feel. "The pigment content is pretty high, so it's great for build," explains Terry Lauder Road.
Despite containing skin-friendly ingredients, this concealer only came in 12 shades when it launched in 2016, which was disappointing. Despite my loyalty to Balm DotCom and Glossier You, I'd never really delved into their skin-toning products, This is one of the main reasons.
Trillaud told ELLE.com that the concealer is one of Glossier's top 10 best-selling products. The brand's consumers buff concealer to apply to their entire face, and Glossier wants to make sure it "fits" the face.
"It's meant to be something fluid. So you can wear it anywhere," she said. The concealer has a medium dewy finish; however, the foundation provides light to medium natural coverage. "We want to make sure it's as true to your natural skin as possible. Your real skin," Trillaud explains.
Its consistency is similar to that of a serum and is quickly absorbed into the skin. "We hate the feel of foundation—that's our guiding principle. We want it to feel like skincare," says Terry Lauder.
The formula is a water-based gel cream. This primer is packed with skincare ingredients that form a hydrating base, including plant-based squalene and glycerin. The foundation contains skin-conditioning active ingredients such as rosehip oil, wild rosemary and plankton extract.
"Together, these ingredients regulate skin's oil and moisture levels throughout the day," says Terry Lauder. The product feels very light on my face, almost like I'm not wearing anything. It has a nice "finish" that looks finished but not overly finished.
My skin, but better. For me, the real star of this launch isn't the extendable concealer shade or foundation. It's actually a cute little gua sha brush that the brand created for optimal product application. Nod to Skin Care Ingredients: When you're applying foundation, think seriously about skin, skin, skin.
Applying makeup becomes an experience, a skincare ritual; however, a stretchy facial brush is great for blending and distribution because it glides over the contours of your face, just like you would apply it with your hands. This brush is also great for traveling.
Because it seals itself, you don't have to worry about foundation cluttering your makeup bag and other products. I've used the primer about eight times in the last month and I like to apply it with a brush on my dresser.
My second favorite method is with my fingers and this literally gives me the best formula combo I've had lately - what a calming way to start the day.
We all know that awful feeling at the end of a long day when your face is heavy from makeup and daily stress. While Glossier can't get rid of your boss or shorten your commute (housing crisis be damned), Stretch Fluid Foundation can leave your face feeling light and hydrated 12 hours later.
It wasn't a newly applied light, but it was hardly noticeable and not distracting; one night I almost forgot I had it. A lightweight, medium-coverage foundation is an essential addition to any look.
I can only recommend this formula to people with dry skin. Combined with your skin care routine, your skin will be happy. Mine is!
